This has been on youtube for a while now so I'm sure many of you already know it. It starts off as a history channel doc' then turns into Zulu Dawn. What I'd like to know is , what is the documentary called (possibly ' Zulu : The True Story ') & is it available on dvd? I really like the look of the computer gfx mixed with live action in the battle scenes ...

I think this may have originally been broadcast as part of the BBC Timewatch series. Check out:-
Cheers John, I'd seen this site on my searches. But thanks all the same.
The good news is I've found somewhere to d/l it in full for free ! Not had time to see it yet, but looks like Ian Knight (as well as others) is the historian from the steek preview I had

hi all. I agree with Johnb , it looks like the timewatch series . It was shown in Australia by the ABC and was en-titled Zulu - The true story. I have it but havent watched it in a while , I taped it off the T.V. If I remember correctly the early or opening scenes are of the closing stages of Isandlwana done by computer graphics , obviously there isnt any original film. :) . And it gives the effect of being filmed from a long way off. I have another VHS doco which I purchased from ebay and havent seen it again . Entitled " Secrets of the dead - Day of the Zulu ". Well worth chasing down , Ian Knight is onboard breaking open an Ammo box , Other tests done using the M.H shooting through forensic body wax etc etc . The distributor is PBS in America , but it isnt on DVD as far as I am aware . cheers 90th.

I used to have this also taped off the telly, though it was called 'Secrets of the dead - The real Zulu Dawn' here in England. Borrowed by my brother years ago & when asked for it back says he already has given it .. In other words lost

hi everyone, can anyone remember a documentary about the zulu war that I think was called something along the limes of 'Dawn of the Zulus'. I cant find anything of it on the web, it was on one of the documentary channels on sky. It sounds similar to the one 90th described, but im not sure. It contained some tests like the ammo box opening, the zulu snuff-which was tried on 1 of 2 fighters who then saw if it affected them, shooting through a zulu sheild and some other ones. if anyone can give me some more information on this or just tell me Im absolutley crackers and Im just making this all up! (I dont think I am)
any more information, or maybe a title, would be greatly apreciated
thanks joe

hi admin, I think that it is definatley the documentary I was trying to describe, but I think it could have been called something else, possibly the earlier suggested titlle 'Day of the Zulu'. Thank you for your quick response-I knew I wasnt just imagining it, although it has happened before! again thanks
thanks joe
