"Paul Chappé was employed by Edward Sparrow Stafford of Harding as his storekeeper at Ingeli, East Griqualand. Paul was called up to serve as a volunteer officer in putting down the East Griqualand Rebellion while there. He had also served in the Basuto and Zulu Rebellions as a volunteer officer.

I don't think this chap served in the Zulu War.?

Served in Cape-Xhosa war Employment [1877-1878] South Africa
From Chappé de Léonval Family History:

1878
Paul Chappé was employed by Edward Sparrow Stafford of Harding as his storekeeper at Ingeli, East Griqualand. Paul was called up to serve as a volunteer officer in putting down the East Griqualand Rebellion while there. He had also served in the Basuto and Zulu Rebellions as a volunteer officer.
