There was a Richard Beresford from Cape Town. An estate agent from a few years back, brother still is an agent. Wonder if its any relation, possibly Richard would like to clarify?

Hi Iss14029

Here is 900 Pvt. E Strange on the medal roll for 1/24th showing he was indeed killed at Isandhlwana. But, because he died in service his papers will not survive, so it is very difficult to find out about his background.

Norman Holme's book "The Noble 24th" lists him on the Isandhlwana casualty roll as follows - " Posted to Service Companies 2/8/1877. Effects recorded for claim by next of kin. South Africa Medal with clasp 1879".That information probably came from the Pay Lists in the National archives at Kew.

If you can trace your UK ancestors it might show some link, but it is a very long shot.
