| Gary,
Going back to point you raised initially. The problem is in the Zulu psyche, many Zulu refer to the Battle of iSandlwana as The War of iSandlwana.
As to it being a “Continental” thing what is that all about?
The Major has sent me a comment about this but I fear I can’t repeat it here...

| John its all part of her agenda, promote the AZW as part of the imperial aggression into Africa thus broadening the focus from a single battle to 'Continental' significance. She is an objectional person of note and is due for a fall. The ANC leadership in Natal has just been banned by the National Executive Committee, a lot of her support has gone with it. Shes going to have an uphill battle to raise the money now. Expect to see her moved very soon into a more political position. |

| Frank,
Heaven help the People of Heaven, please!
A local source tells me the re-enactment has taken place over the weekend. The Zulu memorial appears to have been the focal point for car parking. Respect indeed.
Fortunately I have had no contact with her since September.

| Hi JY & Frank Yes I've heard from the Major re Booboo ( Sorry GUGU ) . I cant repeat what either of us said to be honest ! . Yes ....Continental ... I thought what's that tripe ? . Pretty poor when there's no respect for what your Ancestors sacrificed , it'd be like us Aussies and Kiwis rolling up to Gallipoli ...and parking on the beach ! , it WOULDN'T HAPPEN ! . She needs to ride off into the Sunset I expect ! , glad it's falling apart for her , I dont know to many that have any time for her whatsoever ! ..Sorry for the rant , not being my country I probably need to have a measured response ! . 90th |

| That’s why then. Isandula can tell you about our foray into said shebeen back in 1999!
Why don’t they bring back the Coca Cola sign painted on the side of the building, it was iconic!
For some reason my images aren’t sticking my other post of this morning.

| I so remember that shebeen, had a couple of bottles of black label there. I'm sure theres a photo of Ken Gillings with George at the site of the 'guns' with the shebeen in the back ground. |

| Ian Knights, Then and Now, page 77, look in the background for the pub. Hard to imagine that at the time of writing Mostyn and Younghusband were fighting tooth and nail over that piece of property. |

Do you think?
Pretty sad to think that in a country of over 230 million that this was the best we could come up with. Too much television and not enough education.

| Julian Whybra, you can be assured the lunatics are trying very hard here in Australia. As Gary may be able to confirm, the latest thing here is to change the date of "Australia Day" celebrated on the Anniversary of the starting of the Settlement at Sydney Cove. It causes grief and upset to our indiginous brothers and sisters don't you know? Most of them don't give a damn, it's just the PC mob doing the wailing and lamenting !!! I'm over it !! |

| nitro Perhaps they'll change it to 22nd January to celebrate the great victory which prevented "the invasion of Africa". History lies in the hands of the (ultimate) victors. |

| Mean while back at the ranch. Cape town is in pretty dire straights. We had 79 days of water left in the dams. It was supposed to rain yesterday and today, instead we have high 30s temperatures and blue sky. Lovely day to jump into the swiiming pool, except theres no water in there just a bright green sludge at the bottom. The taps will be turned of on day Zero and we will have to stand in line at water distribution points to draw 25 litres of water per person per day. During the present restrictions my wife and myself have managed to cut out use down to 30 litres per day to try and conserve as much of the resource as possible. Thats meant showers of a max of 1 minute every second day while standing in a bucket to collect the water to use for flushing the toilet. that's an activity that can only happen once a day so we spend a large amount of money on aerosols and antiseptics. On day zero in order to control usage we will have to present ourselves in person to draw out 25litres, that's 25 kilograms to he hauled around, so days will revolve around standing in line for hours at a time. Most schools will close down as there will be no toilet facilities as will most offices. A lot of people have invested huge amounts of money in drilling bore holes and putting in filters to clean the water, its still undrinkable, but can be used else where. tht is now to be outlawed as the municipality is concerned the aquifers will be flooded with sea water, we are on a peninsular with the Indian and Atlantic as our boundaries. The point I'm making reflects the comments above in that the National Government, its their responsibility, doesnt like the western Cape because its the only portion of the country not controlled by the ANC. So they wont declare us a disaster area in the hope that we, the population, will the local government and vote them out. So yes gentlemen, the Lunatics are in control. The last point is of course that I'm now going to be forced to stop taking water with my whiskey. Here ended my rant for the day. |

| How soon some forget their own history. The Nguni were invaders from central Africa.
The AmaZulu conquered, subjugated and oppressed their neighbours, a few short years before the events of 1879.
People in glass palaces should not throw stones.
Just my thoughts and guess I’ll be crossed off of a few Christmas card lists now!

| John Y Many years ago there was a Zulu chief who had a very ornate and heavy solid wood throne that he hid in the roof of his hut. During an evening it fell down and killed him so I suppose that would echo your post of People that live in Grass houses should not stow thrones. |

In France, Politically correct concept becomes omnipresent at the expense of historical truth and context. I read that Général Lee became personna non grata in USA. Ditto in France with Colbert (minister of Louis XIX). He is judged through our eyes of the 21 century not in the context of 17 century Amitié Fred |
