| Hi Milner The following is from Norman Holme's ' The Silver Wreath ' Lance Sergeant John Milner ; 1/ 24th Regt 25B / 232 . Attested at Liverpool on 28/ 5 / 74 , aged 18 years 3 months . Effects claimed by his Father . Medal with ' 1879 ' Clasp ' . I dont have my copy of Holme's ' The Noble 24th ' handy , but I doubt there will be any additional info in it . Graves will no doubt post his service papers once he gets a chance to do so . Cheers 90th |

| Hello Milner,
Not much help really I'm afraid but I came across the following page a couple of years ago which makes a mention of John Milner's death at Isandlwana - he came from Hutton Bonville near Northallerton in Yorkshire.
I made a few enquiries hoping to track down some kind of memorial to him, and although I tracked his parents' grave down there was no mention of John on the headstone.

| Thanks 90th and Tim for speedy reply.
I do have a bit of history of J. Milner as a cousin did a lot of research into our family history a few years ago. He was born 5-3-1858 and as far as I know, lied about his age to sign on. The family history I have indicates he served In Gibraltar, Cape Town and then Natal. apparently his medal was made into two brooches at some point and I have no idea of where they are.
However, I have in my possession the original Roll of Honour that was issued to John's family, which lists all the people who were killed at Isandhlwana.

| Hi Milner
As Steve says, he died in service, so I am unable to find his service papers.
