2nd Lt. John Stevens Guille 99th

Just picked up an album of press cuttings compiled by the Guille family of Little Torrington in Devon from 1874 to about 1882. It includes Norris Newman's article in the Standard of 4 April 1879 on the battle of Gingindlovu. The article has been significantly amended in ink by someone who was clearly at the battle. 2nd Lt John Stevens Guille of the 99th was present at Gingindlovu and throughout the rest of the AZW. He died at Peshawar in India in 1886 (see the Graves and Memorials section). I will post some of the amendments, but in the meantime if anyone has further details of 2nd Lt Guille I would be interested to know. I have not previously seen any account by him.

If you go to the Regimental Museum Website at www.thewardrobe.org.uk [The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire] and there under RESEARCH/COLLECTION put in Guille and you will come up with the following references to this officer. 8318..28814….28793 28794. Maybe of interest to you.
