Captain John Edward Leveson Jervis, Viscount St. Vincent - 17th Lancers - Wounded at Abu Klea 17th January 1885, died 23rd January.
Memorial at St. Peters Church, North Disney, Lincolnshire - "This tablet is erected by sorrowing relatives to the loving memory of John Edward Leveson Jervis 4th Viscount St. Vincent, Captain 16th Lancers. Born 3rd April 1850. Died 23rd January 1885 from wounds received at the Battle of Abou Klea 17th January 1885. This gallant and brave officer was appointed Cornet 7th Hussars March 1871 and promoted Captain 16th Lancers February 1881. He served in the Zulu War of 1879 as orderley to Major-General Marshall and was present with the 17th Lancers in the engagements at Zuinguin and Ulundi for which he received a medal with clasp. He served as orderly officer to Brigadier-General Macgregor against the Marrees in South Afghanistan 1880 when he was mentioned in despatches and received a medal. He served in the Boer War of 1881 as Adjutant to the Mounted Infantry and in the Egyptian War of 1882, as Aide-de-Camp to Major-General Drury-Lowe, was present at the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir and the capture of Cairo, for which he was mentioned in despatches, received a medal, 4th class of the Medjidie, and Khedives Star. At the time of his death he was serving in the Heavy Camel Corps against the Mahdi in the Soudan."
