Kate some superb research going on, well done. It's not that unusual for a bit of bragging to happen in the pubs and to the family. Many many years ago I was in a local pub, on leave, with my dad. And there was a rather loud mouthed twit talking about an engagement that had taken place in Aden. The gentleman in question had 'an English tan' like porcelain and had never seen a hot sun. A quiet whisper in his ear on a toilet break, caused him to pee on his shoes and flee when I mentioned I was in that action and he was never to be seen again.
Keep up the postings, love reading them.
Frank

Why thank you Frank, i'm glad you are finding these postings enjoyable.
I bet he went even paler when you whispered in his ear. Joker

Yes he did take part in the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.

He is incorrectly listed on the Medal Roll as Private 29B/647 Veayey G
