Brother of Lt Young

Hi All

I recall a mention of a casualty at Isandlwana found under a wagon covered over by a tarpaulin with his head lying on a saddle I believe. Would that be the brother of Lieutenant Young?

No. He was killed on the Fugitives' Trail (see Stafford's account).

It just that I came across an addition to a despatch in The South Wales Daily News, Saturday March 1st, 1879:

It was Mr Harley who wrote the account of the interview with Lieutenant Young, who escaped from the Zulu, and which has already been telegraphed. In addition to the particulars already narrated, it may be stated that Lieutenant Young, when firing on the enemy, had his brother beside him. While engaged in confronting the enemy, a bullet struck his brother in the forehead, carrying a portion of his skull away, and the poor fellow fell and died without a groan. Lieutenant Young carried the body behind a wagon and covered it over.

I was just wondering if this was the same man mentioned in certain posts.

Lieutenant Heydon Young's account was I'm afraid fraudulent. See. England's Sons, Section L1, p. 24.
He was the brother of Lieut. Lonsdale Young NNC, kia at Isandhlwana. Heydon went on sick leave from the 3rd Regt NNc on 21st January and was seen in Sand Spruit that afternoon. His fraudulent letter was exposed by Higginson.
