Shipping - transport in the AZW Empty
PostSubject: Shipping - transport in the AZW   Shipping - transport in the AZW EmptySun Oct 06, 2024 3:23 pm

A few years ago, one of the forum members posted some images of ship's manifests which they had found at TNA. (From the style of the book cover common to muster lists, it looks like one of their volumes).
I believe it was the Jumna and contained I think Robert Jones V.C.
I either forgot to take the reference number or it was not provided. Does anyone remember this and which section it's in?
I'm trying to find out more info on shipping/troop transport to South Africa especially coastal shipping from Capetown to Port Elizabeth and Durban.
The Narrative has details on the reinforcements sent with each port visited and I've seen a blog on the Afghan war with ship's details so this info must be available somewhere.
I'm wondering if anyone has already come across such things, would it be in the War Office (WO) Admiralty (ADM) or Board of Trade (BT) sections at TNA? Thanks

Bill

To clarify (thanks again Martin) I'm aware of the WO 25 series on embarkation, it's the more detailed listing of dates and ports which I'm hoping to find.

Bill,

There is a piece about the Jumna titled 'Invalided home' in the General Discussion Area, author I believe was Rusteze (2016).

Is that what you were referencing?

Regards

Yes that's the one.

Unfortunately there's no reference given, only that is is a Royal Marine's muster list. I'd downloaded the lists but was hoping it might have reference so I could check that particular section.

Cheers,

Bill
