Full Sized Original Medal with Original Naming - Confirmed on Roll and Papers

It has, in the past, been mounted as a brooch and there are still traces of solder at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock on the obverse.The suspender has been re-fixed using a pin and is still a little loose.

The naming is original and the medal entitlement is confirmed on the Roll of the 91st Foot - showing that he was engaged against the Zulus in 1879.

James Bain was born in Forfar, Scotland, around 1860 and signed up 1878 - his papers show that he went to South Africa in February 1879 and and was awarded the South Africa Medal with clasp "1879" for Service in Zululand (his only entitlement). His service lasted 12 years, included two periods in South Africa, promotion to Lance Corporal and a Court Martial.

The medal comes with a copy of the roll and four pages of copied service papers.
