Sergt. Woods N.N.C.

Hi
Does anyone have any record of a Sergt. Woods, probably a member of one of the 1st or 2nd battalions, 3rd Regiment which were on the Mangeni, returned to Isandhlwana with Chelmsford, and were subsequently disbanded at Rorke's Drift?
As an N.C.O. he might have joined one of the Natal Horse units or something else in the immediate post-Isandhlwana period but I can't find that this is so.
Any forthcoming information will be appreciated and acknowledged.

Is definitely Woods, rather than Wood?

There’s a Trooper J. G. Woods serving in the Natal Light Horse.

In the 1st/3rd N.N.C. there’s a Corporal M. Wood, from Chapel Street, Port Elizabeth.

It's recorded as Woods in a diary entry (which may of course be an error).
Your Corp. M Wood 1/3rd was not a casualty. In what context did you find him?
Trooper Woods looks possible.

Wood came from Harford’s almanac entry of names & addresses of the N.N.C.

Good! As I recall (and can you confirm?) Harford's entries were made in December when the NNC was being assembled.
I have Woods as a sergeant on 15th January. It's possible he had been promoted by then.

No the almanac entries date from after the events of 22nd/23rd January 1879.

Yes, they do (I just checked your previous e-mail to me about Raubenheimer).
That actually fits better. He was demoted from Sergt. to Corp. on the 15th and I have proof of it.
