The answer is probably on here somewhere but I am unable to drop on it.

Adendorff is said to have left Isandlwana in company with a body of NNH - shooting their way through the right horn of the Zulus.

Adendorff and Sibthorpe (or another member of the NC) approached RD via the Zulu bank (it's said that they couldn't swim) and crossed via the pont.

Henderson briefly commanded about 100 men of the NNH (Hlubi and Edendalers) but what direction did they arrive at RD from? The Natal or Zulu side of the river?

Some Edendale troopers (under Khambula) had covered the retreat of some fugitives in the river (presumably having gone down the Fugitives Trail?) but do not seem to be amongst the NNH at RD (Simeon K did not mention it, I don't believe)

Thanks

Simon

Thanks a lot

It appears that the Hlubi troop crossed at a drift a little downstream of the ponts.

But I'm currently struggling to find how the Edendale contingent made to RD. - did they all go via Fugitives Drift or did they spilt up, on leaving the camp and some go with the Hlubi troop and some under Khambula head down the trail?

SRB
Almost all of Henderson's No. 4 Troop (with Henderson and Hlubi themselves) escaped via the road to RD but crossed just below the Drift itself. Another 45 or so natives from the three Sikali troops were with them making about 100 in all.
Davies's No. 5 Troop crossed at Fugitives' Drift and went cross-country to Helpmekaar.
The four surviving NNH officers all escaped via Fugitives' Drift.
Sources can all be found in Sections H, J, M and O in England's Sons.

And of course the surviving remainder of the three Sikali troops crossed at Fugitives' Drift.
