This may have been asked before, so I apologize in advance if it was already answered.

I have seen many artists’ impressions of the 60th rifles helmets showing the Maltese Cross badge affixed to them.

How common was this actually worn in the field during the Zulu and 1st Boer War? Did it change during the Boer War, or was there not enough time between Ingogo and Majuba?

Rob,

I don’t know about the 2nd/60th as they in Afghanistan, I believe.

3rd/60th many of the images of the battalion in South Africa show them wearing their helmet badges in the field, that said most of the photographs date from the 1st Boer War, 1880-1.

Not the helmet plate, but the letterhead of the 3rd/60th.
