| I wonder if during the Zulu attack at Isandlwana if any Zulu were bitten. I don't think i would be standing where Springbok's son is. Unless there was a rasied platform, lets say about 20 foot high. |

| November to March April is snake season, particularly after the first summer rains. Black Mambas are lethal and one of the world’ most poisonous snakes.
But we are in May now so Springbok and co. Should be ok. |

| The Black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) is the longest venomous snake in Africa, averaging around 2.5m (8 ft), and sometimes growing up to 4.3m (14 ft). Its potent venom, relatively large size, and overall ferocity of its attacks makes it popularly the most feared snake in Africa. Its name is due to the black inside of its mouth; the actual color of the skin varies, from dull yellowish-green to a gun-metal grey. It is one of the fastest snakes in the world, capable of moving at 4.5 to 5.4 meters per second (16–20 km/hr, 10–12 mph). Despite its name, the Black mamba's skin color is actually olive, brownish, gray, or sometimes khaki in color. The younger Black mambas are lighter, appearing gray or olive green. The Black mamba’s belly is cream-colored, sometimes blended with green or yellow. The Black mamba also appears to have lateral bars running down its body. This effect is from dark spots or blotches that speckle the back half of the body and alternating dark and light scales near the posterior. Their smooth scales are at mid-body, in 23 to 25 rows. The eyes are dark brown to black, with a silvery-white to yellow edge on the pupils. The adult Black mamba's length ranges from 2.0 to 3.0 meters, with an average length of 2.2 to 2.7 meters long (8 ft).[3] There have been rare cases of Black Mambas reaching lengths of 4.3 and even 4.5 meters long (14.7 ft). They weigh on average about 1.6 kg (3.5 lbs). The Black Mamba lives in Africa. Its distribution ranges from Eritrea in the north-east, through to South Africa, and as far west as Namibia. This includes Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Angola, Malawi, and the Congo Basin. The Black mamba thrives in the hot and humid environment of the region. The Black mamba returns to a permanent home after its daily behaviors (i. e. when it is not hunting, mating, or seeking quick refuge). The Black mamba is noted as playing a vital role in controlling rodent populations. It lives on rocky hills, riverine forest with downed trees providing shelter, and wooded-savannah. They have also been known to live in termite mounds and hollow trees. The Black mamba is not arboreal, but they can sometimes be found in trees. | 1. Is the valley of the Tugela river, the troops climbed these hills on the way to Rorkes Drift, and Isandlwana 2. We Christened him Chelmsford. Its that a Donkey or an Ass. :lol!: 3. Of course there were no bush shops for the invading cols 4. This is the actual battlefield at Rorkes Drift, the stones mark the line of the front barricades 5. This is the rebuilt hospital at RD its set back from the original but gives a good idea of the feel. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Took these from Franks folder off photobucket. Frank may want to name some of the locations. It would take to long to find original topics and post. But there are some good and informative photos. Some photos have locations on them. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Strange old world Gary. I spent 3 days there last week on horseback. You should try it, give you a new view of things. And a bloody sore backside, had to stand up at the bar. |
