I came across this some months ago, forgot to post. Its really doe’s go into a lot of detail. Hope you find it as interesting as I did.

Littlehand. Yes very interesting. However what concerns me is this.

I’m assuming Mr Kevin Jon Bloom is referring to Rob Caskie in his essay when touring the Battlefields. What I would like to know, is there an exact time-line regarding the actions at Rorkes Drift. It appears that Rob states the Zulu Attack at Rorkes drift took place at 5pm. Now I have read various times as to when the attack took place, even the defenders themselves differ in the timing. Was it a case that many of the defenders at Rorkes Drift never had watches? Its just a bit of a curiosity that there does not seemed to be an accurate record of when the attack actually commence.

Hi Mr Greaves.
I think you will find watches may have been a rare item for the enlisted man at the time of R.D . I tend to agree with the times
Chard based his report upon as he was the commanding officer , reports tend to state between 3.30 and later as the time of
the commencement of the action . Pressed for time so not sure of the time Chard mentions for the attack .
