| Hi All, My name is Richie and this is my first post. (Joined yesterday). May I firstly say what a wonderful site and such a depth of knowledge. I am currently in the process of converting and sculpting some 120mm scale model figures to do with the Zulu War (hence me joining this site) I predominantly want to make lesser known volunteer units with some 24th foot figures.
I do have a specific request for help, so if you have an original or replica in your collection please contact me.
I need full size dimensions for cap badges, buckles, collar insignia:- height, width and depth including photograph's for the following in order to scale them down accurately and get them photo etched.
24th Foot cap badge and Glengarry Badge, 24th Foot Belt Buckle, Sphinx Collar Insignia. I would also like dimensions for a period snake belt buckle. If the following had their own cap badges, belt buckles, collar insignia, pouch insignia, photo's and dimensions would be fantastic. Natal Native Contingent, Natal Carbineers, Buffalo Border Guard, Newcastle Mounted Rifles, Natal Mounted Police, Stranger Mounted Rifles, Natal Hussars, Victoria Mounted Rifles and Durban Mounted Rifles.
Many thanks in anticipation of a much needed response. cheers Richie

| Hi Richie . Welcome aboard , hope you enjoy your time here on the forum . I'm sure you will gain much knowledge in pursuit of what you are aiming to achieve . If you go to the Home page , then scroll down to the section ' 1879 Anglo Zulu War Historical Memoribilia ' you will see some members collections of zulu war items , some badges , Belt Buckles , etc . This has a few items , so you will get to see what these items look like . I will look through some books and see if they give dimensions etc , If I found anything I will post it later in the week . Others may post some info beforehand . cheers 90th |

Someone else may hopefully come across this info , if anyone can Littlehand can . !!. There isnt much that escapes him . . cheers 90th. PS. You can possibly try the On - Line Militaria sellers , but I dont remember them giving dimensions either . cheers 90th. |

Checking through '' Men - at - Arms which is an Osprey publication , titled ' Zulu War - Volunteers ,Irregulars & Auxilliaries by Ian Castle , Illustrated by Raffaele Ruggeri , They give the dimensions of the Natal Carbinneers Hat Badge as 2.7 ins x 2.85 ins. Hope this is of some help . cheers 90th . |

The Glengarry badge is 3" tall, from the top of the cross above the crown to the very tip of the buckle on the strap.
The width is 1&3/4"
Hope this helps
Regards, Martin. |

| Greetings! I found this thread to be very useful as I am new to this also. Of course, the last question is, dose anyone know the dimensions of the belt buckle, especially the circumference? Thanks! |
