Lieutenant Harford of the Natal Native Contingent has been covered elsewhere on this forum and his interest in the natural sciences is well documented.  Perhaps not as well known as a naturalist was a member of the Commissariat during the Zulu War, P G  Furse.  This link came to light many years ago while I was Editor of the South African Museum’s magazine, Sagittarius, and it became the subject of a ‘From the Archives’ contribution to this magazine.  Does anyone know what became of Furse and his shell collection?

Hi Brett .
Can't say I've ever heard of the collection or Furse himself for that matter .
Cheers 90th. Salute
