Brigadier Hennie Heymans ( retired ) the present editor of the eNongquai, which is publised monthly on the internet from Pretoria has extracted much of his historical information from Holt's "History of the Natal Mounted Police" (1913), or from the earliest Nongquai's (1906-1913) in which the Regimental historian, Col Will Clarke wrote, inter alia, serial reports on the battles of Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift.
For the record, Col Clarke's initials were W.J. : and although recommended for the CMG by Gen Lukin, it was never awarded.
The OBE was awarded in 1918 after recommendation by Gen Ironsides and approval by the Duke of Connaught and Churchill.
