| The 22nd of January, 1879 is a day that will forever live in infamy because of the Battle of iSandlwana. Considered to be the worst military defeat of the British Imperial Army at the hands of a technologically-inferior native force, iSandlwana has long been the subject of historical debate. An estimated 20,000 Zulus descended on the contingent of about 1,600 British, Volunteer and native soldiers as they made camp at the iSandlwana; some 10km from the Rorke’s Drift mission station. This mobile guide serves to chronicle the build up to the battle as well as the events surrounding it. Avid iSandlwana historian, Frank Allewell, has compiled the most detailed account of the Battle of iSandlwana in this form, along with pictures of the ‘killing fields’ as they stand today – more than 130 years later. Marvel at iSandlwana itself, still towering over the plains, and see the eerie cairns that dot the landscape, marking the very spot where the British lost their lives. Historical photographs from the private collection of John Young are also featured, along with private accounts and journal entries from survivors of the battle. Follow the Battle of iSandlwana in chronological order in the List View of the guide, or explore the battlefield yourself with the events accurately displayed in the Map View. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The app will be available from Wednesday next week from your app store. Price $3.99 Events can be viewed in time and space order or the key characters can be followed. There are 150 photos and some 20000 words of text. All maps and Points of Interest relate to the photos and text so events can be viewed in the place they actually happened. |

| LH Thank you its been a dream to get this done. I spent two weeks begining of this months walking the whole area from Fugitives drift to the Mangeni falls to make sure of all the Map/GPS references. But overall its been a year in the making. I can update it at a moments notice so anything new comes out it can be incorporated. If it is received well I will also release the rest of the series, RD etc. " Crafty old Bugger " now that's funny. And a really Big Thank you to Pete for allowing me to showcase it. Cheers Mate |

| Looks even better than expected. Can't wait to see the full blown implementation. Will it work on an iPhone as well as an iPad?
Anyway, congratulations on seeing all your hard work come to such a successful fruition! - 6pdr |

| 6pd I phones I pads and Androids will all work. Ive had a few PMs asking how it works and how it was built up. I identified around 90 separate points of interest over the whole seat of operations, from Helpmakaar through to Isiphezi hill. Each of those points was then extensively photographed and the GPS location taken. These POI were plotted on the map and a name, time and persons allocated. A menu was built up with 17 separate headings. ie The invasion begins, Chelmsford Reccon etc. Then each of those headings was allocated to the appropriate POi along with a full explanation photos and GPS. So by clicking on any of the icons you are able to explore any of those 17 headings ( Follow Chelmsford around etc ) or trace the advance of the impi. All those 17 headings are time co ordinated so you can then also go through the whole sequence chronologically. A further way of looking through is to go to the map and all those POI are located so you can explore by map position. Hope that helps and thank you to all for the good wishes. |

Right -- so that would be the third one down from the top. I was looking at it and I couldn't help but wonder at the multiplicity of "2s" This will be used by a lot of people without anybody ever knowing it, I bet, because it really does make self-touring possible. I guess there were guidebooks before but they couldn't be downloaded on the spur of the moment. I have to say, I am very glad it is you who wrote the text on this app...as people will be leaving with a fair and balanced representation of events! |

| Morning LH 7 in the morning in Cape Town, temps pushing towards 30 degrees, no wind, going to be a lovely day watching the wife cutting the lawn. Answer to your question , go to the iPad section of the store. It will work on all iPAds. Enjoy |

| Hi springy. I see that you have the wife on 'Jankers', cutting the lawn (with scissors I presume), I had an 'eye pad' on the other week, I got a splinter in it while working in the garden No mate, seriously, can I get this thing to work on a computer, or is it just for these iphone or android or ipad things? Will it eventually become available in disc form, or a file to download and play onto a computer? Almost totally lost on anything that is modern gadgetry, I've had a comp for years but still trying to learn how to do things, they are so puzzling Hope all is well with you mate. |

| Hi Martin Sorry mate its intended as more of a mobile app. In addition to being abale to use it in your home its 'portable' so it would help while walking around the battlefields. Get your 5 year old granddaughter to explain iPhone technology, I did. CTSG sorry mate your post was deleted by pete. |

| Ummm, it looks like I will have to get one of these iphone, android or ipad gadgets.
Shame really, as I was hoping to view it on a bigger screen rather than on the small size of mobile phone screen. You need modern eyes to see these modern gadgets, and those are something I haven't got unfortunately, it also looks like I will have to get a stronger pair of glirks to see this, ah well! such is life.
Cheers. |

Well, you could avoid buying new eye wear if you spend the money on an ipad (or any tablet really) instead. The screens aren't that small and the definition is quite impressive. Of course they generally cost more than the iPhones too. |

| Afraid not but the money has gone towards the purchase of a second hand pair of shoes for my youngest to go to school in, now all I need is to find some news paper to stop the rain coming in through the soles. |
