(2/1/1879 to 30/1/1880): Campaigns: Zulu 1879, Mentioned in Despatches: Medical Officer Field Hospital at Helpmakaar from 16/1/1879: Reported sick at Ladysmith c.28/2/1879: Present at Ulundi: Died 27/1/1896, (Meean Meer, India): Medals South Africa 1879, Indian General Service medal, Burma 1885-1887.

Army Surgeon Dugald Blair Brown, who was born in Gorbals, Scotland on 4 March 1847, joined the Army on 30 March 1872, served in the Zulu Wars, Boer War, India and Burma, and died (in service in the Punjab) on 27 January 1896.

I assume you are aware Blair Brown is actually Dugald Blair Brown ?? , who is the author , and therefore , the book is his own actual experiences ! . I see Graves posted the info you asked for scratch
