The Zulus and the British Frontiers Empty
PostSubject: The Zulus and the British Frontiers   The Zulus and the British Frontiers EmptySun Dec 10, 2017 12:56 pm

Picked up this somewhat scarce title from a little bookshop in Cooperstown New York State (co-incidentally the home of American Baseball - who knew?). Captain Thomas Lucas served with the Cape Mounted Rifles in the 1853 Kaffir War and appears on the medal roll. It is the New York edition published at the same time in London by Chapman and Hall. Of most interest is the detailed chapter it contains on Isandhlwana and Rorke's Drift which, I think, must make it a contender for the earliest publication of such details in book form. The author states that it went to print on 12 April 1879. I should hasten to add that Cpt. Lucas was not present at the time, writing from the leafy London suburb of Islington. Also a nice little bookbinding project.
