| Hi All,
For those wishing to research South African war grave records there has been extensive research done by Mr Steve Watt in Pietermaritzburg. He has a book and a cd available with quite literally 10s of thousands of marked graves listed. This data bank covers graves from all the wars. His contact details are on the internet.
regards

| Hi All, More from the Findagrave website coming soon, but had to share this one. Lt Vincent Holmes Lys, Frontier Light Horse KIA Hlobane 1879. He is mentioned on his wife's gravestone Mary Forest Lys in Dauphin Cemetery Manitoba Canada, there is a photo of the stone on the website. From this i gathered he was born in 1841, served in the Royal Navy from at least 1857 aged 16, [masters Assistant] to 22 Feb 1870 when he was placed on the retired list as a Navigating Lieutenant, aged only 29. He married Mary Forrest[Forest] Taylor in Singapore in 1867. They had at least two Children who appear on the Canadian census of 1901, Hugh b.1875 and Edith b.1870 both born in South Africa. Mary was born in 1846 in Ireland, she died in 1918. The family went to Canada in 1898. Rai KLH |
