I dont know how deep this mans hate of the English was, as his grandson, lives very happily today in  south east  England with his English wife.

I agree that you have to be very careful with this kind of jingoistic reporting. It says more about the British than it does the "continentals" that supposedly hated us. The anti German sentiment reached its climax a few years later during WW1 and was very ugly indeed. There is nothing new about "Fake News" or "little Englanders".

"Captain Schiel, the German, who was wounded and captured at, Elandslaagte. had not only been the artillery adviser of the Transvaal Government, but during the Zulu War of 1879 he held a similar position under Cetewayo. He had always shown, the most, fanatical hatred of England, and after the battle of Ulundi. closing the Zulu campaign, the British Government offered a thousand guineas for his capture."
