    Captain - Liverpool Regiment - 23rd November 1877
    Major - Liverpool Regiment - 7th March 1882
    Special Service, South Africa - June 1879 to 6th November 1879
    Adjutant, Auxiliary Forces (1st Lancashire Rifle Volunteer Corps) - 12th June 1882 to?
     South African War - 1879 - Zulu Campaign. Medal with Clasp.

    7th Earl of Roden; b. 1845; brotherof William Henry; joined the army & fought in Zulu War in 1879; married Ada Maria Jenyns in 1882; lived at Tollymore Park in 1900; died 1915

    "Robert Julian Orde Jocelyn, 7th Earl of Roden was born on 19th April 1845. He was the son of Hon. John Jocelyn and Emily Thompson. He married Ada Maria Jenyns, daughter of Colonel Soame Gambier Jenyns, on 7th December 1882. He died on 18 December 1915 at age 70.
    He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Cheshire. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the King's Liverpool regiment. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Down. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) He succeeded as the  11th Baronet Jocelyn, of Hyde Hall, co. Herts [1665] on 23 January 1910. He succeeded as the  8th Baron Newport of Newport, co. Tipperary [1743] on 23 January 1910. He succeeded as the  7th Earl of Roden, of High Roding, co. Tipperary [1771] on 23 January 1910. He succeeded as the  8th Viscount Jocelyn 1755
    on 23 January 1910"

    Capt R.J.O.Jocelyn ; 8th Foot , Embarked for the Cape with drafts . Served during the latter part of the war with the Native Carrier Corps .
