| Also in the SWB April 1940 Journal:- "Mr James Gittins died on the 9th December and was buried at Egham. "Jimmy" joined the Regiment in October 1868 and served in the Kaffir, Zulu and Burmah campaigns with the 2nd Battalion. He was Sergeant-Major of the Battalion when it received their present colours (in replacement of those lost at Isandhlwana) at Gibraltar in 1880. He went to pension in 1889. Early in 1897 he became Canteen Steward of the 2nd Battalion, and continued as such with the Home Battalion under successive Contractors until 1929 when he retired from the N.A.A.F.I. as Steward of the Soldiers club at Bordon. He was one of the originators of the Old Comrades Association which proceeded the Regimental Association and was most respected and popular member of the Regiment with all that knew him. At the time of his death he was 88 years of age." Kate |

| 90th,
You must have been mistaken - Jimmy Gittins's South Africa Medal along with his rarer MSM has been on display at the Regimental Museum in Brecon for many years. |

| Hi Kenny Quite possibly , I remember recently seeing it but it might've been a mention at Brecon , or I possibly read it somewhere , I just assumed I saw it for sale , which as you said may not be the case . 90th |

| 90th,
You may have seen a SA medal (no clasp) awarded to 25B/2808 Pte Thomas Gittings who joined 2/24th 18 Jul 1879. C/Sgt Jimmy Gittins also had the IGSM and the LSGC - four medals in total. |
