He served in the war over a very wide extent of the territory, performing many arduous and important duties with the troops in the field, on the lines of communication, and at the bases.
Source No 1

 He was born in Bengal as a British subject and in 1901 he was living in Egham, Surrey as a Medical Practitioner age 51.
Source ‘1901 U K Census’

 He arrived in Cape town on 13th June 1878 and posted to King William’s Town: Served during operations against the Zulu 1879, with Natal Native Contingent and No 3 column (see Lieutenant Harford’s Journal): Arrived Helpmakaar 24th January 1879: Was in charge of sick and wounded between Helpmakaar & Ladysmith: Later served with 2nd Division: Medal with clasp 1878-9 and Order of Osmanieh, Turkish.

Hi All,
William Hugh Beresford born 30 Dec 1849 Dacca Bengal, 1891,1901,1911,1921 census various addresses in Esher Surrey, his probate gives died 5 April 1932 of Alston Field Claremont Lane, Esher. He was buried at St George's Church [later Christchurch] Esher Surrey.
