Due to recent events on this forum, we have now imposed a zero tolerance to harassment and bullying. All reports will be treated seriously, and will lead to a permanent ban of both membership and IP address.
Any member blatantly corresponding in a deliberate and provoking manner will be removed from the forum as quickly as possible after the event.

We are all here to communicate and enjoy the various discussions and information on the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. Opinions will vary, you will agree and disagree with one another, we will have debates, and so it goes.
There is no excuse for harassment or bullying of anyone by another person on this site.

| Boatswain Job Adams 10 Mar 1836 born at Gosport, Hampshire, mother, Jane Adams Served in the East Indies Merchant Service prior to joining the Royal Navy 3 Jan 1856 entered the Royal Navy aboard HMS Ariel as an Able Seaman 3 Feb 1856 Appointed Captain of the Fore Top aboard “Ariel”; signed on for 10 years continuous service; issued Continuous Service Number 27468. 7 Dec 1856 advanced to Captain’s Coxswain 8 Jul 1859 Captain’s Coxswain transferred to HMS St. Vincent 20 Aug 1859 Transferred as Quarter Master to HMS Vulcan; served aboard ship during the 2nd China War; entitled to China Medal with “Taku Forts” clasp 7 Apr 1861 Census shows he was a Quarter Master aboard HMS Vulcan at Chefoo Harbor, China 4 Sep 1862 Appointed Acting Boatswain on HMS Manilla (Shanghai, China) 9 Feb 1864 Boatswain 3rd Class on HMS Vulcan 18 Feb 1865 his China Medal was sent to him aboard “Asia” 3 Apr 1865 Boatswain 3rd Class Job Adams, HMS Asia, married Emma Marie Knapp at Kingston Church 1865 Boatswain 3rd Class on HMS Tamar 15 Mar 1869 Boatswain 3rd Class on HMS Hector 1 Apr 1870 advanced to Boatswain 2nd Class 3 June 1871 Boatswain 2nd Class on HMS Glasgow 1 Aug 1871 Boatswain 2nd Class on HMS Enchantress (borne on “Asia”) 1 Jan 1873 Advanced to Boatswain 27 Nov 1876 Boatswain on HMS Euphrates (Troop Ship); served during the Zulu War; entitled to South Africa Medal without clasp 12 Sep 1880 Boatswain on HMS Speedy (Tender to “Asia”) 3 Apr 1881 Census shows him to be a Boatswain belonging to HMS “Asia” at Portsmouth Harbour, residing with his wife and 5 children ashore. 9 Apr 1883 Boatswain on HMS Victor Emmanuel as additional for Hong Kong Yard, China 10 Feb 1886 invalided due to ‘climatic debility’; transported home aboard HMS Orontes 20 May 1886 promoted to Chief Boatswain 26 Jan 1887 Chief Boatswain on HMS Boscawen 11 Mar 1887 pensioned 5 Apr 1891 Census shows him residing in Alverstoke, Hampshire as a Retired Chief Boatswain with his wife and 7 children. 31 Mar 1901 Census shows him residing in Alverstoke, Hampshire as a Retired Chief Boatswain with his wife and 4 children. 29 Aug 1910 died at his residence Weycliffe Villa, Brockhurst 2 Sep 1910 buried at Ann’s Hill Cemetery, Gosport, Hampshire
