Doesn’t say he served in the campaign only he was there at the time.
I conclude from the report his volunteer service was local to Huddersfield, possibly in one of the West Riding volunteer corps.

| Hi All, James Cooper born 1838 probate died 22 Jan 1915, 29 Handsworth Rd Blackpool to widow Betsey. 1911 Census James B.1838 Marsden Yorkshire + Betsey Cooper address Handsworth Road Blackpool. Not likely Zulu War. Rai Keynshamlighthorse.

James Cooper born 1838 Coventry, enlisted 3 sept 1859 to 58th 1 Nov 1872 L/sgt [1037] 2163 58th discharged at Wakkerstroom Transvaal 10 June 1880 final discharge UK 30 Nov 1880. 1881 census Hospital Porter st Mary Hospital Coventry, 1891 census same address married to Mary. On 58th Roll Zulu War. Rai Keynshamlighthorse. |

| Hi All, Whilst on Cooper's James Cooper enlisted 20 May 1874 born near Richmond Barracks Dublin aged 19 [born circa 1855] occupation Clerk, to 2/21st Regt, to Military Staff as a Clerk 8 Jan 1878, to Natal 18 April 1879 to 7 Dec 1879, No Clasp SA Medal. Discharged 21 May 1902 28 Yrs Col Sgt General Staff. Married 1st Mary at Colchester 30 Dec 1878 she Died 20 July 1894. 2nd Ethel Mary at Bedford 22 Jan 1897. Rai Keynshamlighthorse. |

| Hi All, A bit more on the Staff Clerk, he was discharged at Dover aged 47 in1902 intended residence Brixton. On 1911 census James and Ethel are living at Effra Road Brixton with 4 kids, first born Netley, the other three all in Dover. I expect james died in 1940 and registered in Camberwell district. He is buried with ethel, in Lambeth Cem Con/D.3/ 139. Rai Keynshamlighthorse. |
