"Deserter for the Boadicea"- William Brown who recently deserted from H.M.S. Boadicea is still at large. He belongs to Glasgow, is extensively tattooed and with a Scottish accent and nautical cut, should soon be in the hands of the authorities.

William Brown did not serve during the Zulu War. He was appointed to HMS Boadicea on 7 August 1880 and advanced to Ordinary Seaman in January 1881 and served ashore for Special Duty at Durban during the 1st Boer War. After deserting he was returned to ship on 14 May 1881 and sentenced to 42 days in gaol. Afterwards he was transferred first to HMS Dido and then to HMS Briton before returning to "Boadicea" on 22 November 1881. He successfully deserted from his ship a second time on 4 July 1882 at Simons Town. There were no further entries on his service record.
