Memorial Monument
In a day or two will be despatched to Schuins Hoogte by Messrs. Jesse Smith and Son of this City, an obelisk – plain as that now marking the spot where the brave Sir George Pomeroy Colley lies – to commemorate the officers and men of the 3rd Battalion 60th Rifles, who fell at the disastrous engagement at the Ingogo or who died of wounds received in that action. The obelisk is 12 feet in height, and entirely destitute of ornament, save that a Maltese cross is cut on the front above the inscription, with the letters “60” standing out in relief. The four sides of this simple but chaste memorial stone are covered with the names of the fallen. The inscription on the front runs: -
This Memorial

In Memory of their Comrades
Who were Killed
Or Died of Wounds received
