There is a Hughes G. 1879 clasp shown as 'died in service' in the NMP medal rolls.

Apparently he was a native of Canterbury. Natal Witness 18th October 1879

SUICIDE - The unfortunate man Hughes of the Mounted Police who committed suicide under the circumstances detailed in our last, was on Tuesday evening buried with military honours. IT is said his mind was deranged since the massacre of Isandhlwana when he was at the front.

Hi Tim
When we recently went to the PMB Cemetery it was locked up complete with a new security fence , you must ring and someone will ' eventually ' open it for you , when we looked through the fence into the NMP section it was so badly overgrown , and I can say I've never ever seen that Memorial ( Damn ! ) , in saying that we drove past the cemetery on a sunday a couple of weeks ago and I remarked that I thought the Cemetery had had some work done on it ! , unfortunately we didn't have time to stop and check the NMP section .

When I was there last the fence was broken down which side of the main street was it on the George Macleroy side or the other side wear Raw is buried.
