| There is a rather impressive memorial headstone in Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney, Australia commemorating Private James Hibberd (Hibbard) who was killed in action at Isandlwana:
Sacred To the Memory of JAMES HIBBERD, ONE OF THE 1ST 24TH REGIMENT OF FOOT WHO FELL IN ZULULAND 22ND JANUARY 1879 IN THE 29TH YEAR OF HIS AGE
This stone was erected by his loving sister
Sleep gentle brother until the Bugle sound Not the bugle for the light (but by?) Receive thy crown
There is an image of the memorial on the 'BillionGraves' website, although you may need an account in order to view it. I'm hoping to obtain a photo from the cemetery at some point which I can post on here in case it's of interest.
Regards,
Tim |

| Thanks 1879graves!
It's interesting to wonder what might have been in the small inset section above the main inscription - maybe a badge, or a photograph? (Not sure whether including a photo on a headstone was commonplace in Victorian times?)
Regards,
Tim |
