He was born on the 30th of Dec 1848, baptised on the 5th Feb 1849 at Stackpole Elidor in Pembrokeshire, so it looks like he was born at Stackpole.

Apparently in the action of the 25th January 1879 with Wood's column
"Capt. Campbell of the staff had a narrow escape from a bullet that struck his sabretache"

That is interesting about the sabretache as Lieutenant & Captain the Hon. Ronald Campbell was obviously a Staff Officer.  I had a recent discussion outside of the forum with an author due to publish a work on iSandlwana, and I suggested that Melvill & Coghill given their respective roles might well have both worn sabretaches at iSandlwana.
