| Capt H.R.Gough passed away at Herwen Military Hospital which wasn't far from Stanger , Gough took part in the Battle at Nyezane 22/1/79 , and was present at Eshowe . Gough had pressing business to take care of and was able to obtain 6 days leave of absence , he proceeded to Durban after the NNC and Colonial troops were ordered to the Tugela in late Feb , Gough fell ill in Durban and was laid up for several weeks . Gough's health didn't really improve , especially after he and others rode to catch the Invading force who left the Tugela on March 29th . Gough and party took only two days to ride the 82 miles to meet up with the force . Gough suffered badly en route and was again taken ill by Dysentery on March 31st . Gough staggered from a wagon to take control of his Company during the battle at Gingindlovhu April 2nd , this was basically the end for Gough whose body was in a bad state , due to the Excitement and Exertions he'd placed upon himself once he left Durban . 90th |

| Hi All
The Aberdare Times 31st May 1879
A letter in the cape Times says:- Captain Gough son of Lord Gough, was killed by his own bravery. He was lying I'll with disintry at Ginghilova, but would get up and, jumping out of his ambulance to join his men in pursuit , aggregating the disease, to which he succumbed at Stanger. A good Irish girl - blessing on he honest heart :- was making wreaths of immortelle for the braves of poor Mason, Thirkell and Gough. |
