| Might be a good idea. If we started copying the photos on the forum and reposting on a different photo host. Make a note of where you took the image from and repost it.
1879Graves knowing you, you hopefully have copies of the photos in the grave section.

| Hi Admin I do have copies of all the graves I have posted, so if they go, I can repost if needed too using a different hosting site. |

| Unfortunately I have had to activate the photobucket (upgrade account) image. This allows us to get a reference to particular photos which makes it easier to replace via another photo host. Your patients is greatly appreciated. |

| Les I'm glad you said that!. In the very very near future i'm going to post some images of Graves and plots, in hope that members may recognise them and be able to give me the Name and place of burial. Myself and 1879Graves have already replaced many photos, but need help with some. |

| Pete, Is there another photo posting facility that you know of that we can use; Photobucket has locked my personal account so I can't use it to host photos for posting on the forum? |

| I would just sound a note of caution in all this. I just cannot see the business model which allows an image hosting site to offer free storage so a third party forum (such as this one) can piggyback on the service at no cost. Photobucket has twigged it but has shot itself in the foot by imposing exorbitant fees. Other free sites are still available to switch to but for how long I wonder? In the longer term I think it would be wise to explore other options or I can see this happening again. Much as I dislike Facebook, they have no such problem with their special interest groups.

I do agree with you that we (The Forum) need to explore all other options.

| For those who would like to get some, or all of their photos off photo bucket. It takes a bit of time but it is the quickest way.
Sign into your photobucket, then click on the album where you want to get the photo's from. When you photo's appear click on the slideshow button. When the show starts click on the slow transaction button. As the photo's appear right click on photo displayed, when the options appear click on "save photo as" save to desk top is easier, then you can move them to a folder on your desktop. Took me just under 15mins to get back 104 photo's. However its taken me months to work out this method. |

| After committing commercial suicide it's interesting to see this attempt to crawl out of their own grave, i will never trust them again!... Imgur however are brilliant, quick and efficient.. they deliver an excellent service, not a hint of blackmail in sight. |

| Is it not about time we got beyond the need for third party imaging sites? I agree that Imgur is very easy, but we still have a number of active members who will not go near it or any other third party site. The ease of visual communication within specialist closed groups on social media platforms is surely the way things must go. I belong to a couple of local history groups and it is not unusual for responses to run into 100's - they encourage real vibrancy and participation. Technology has moved on.

Steve do you mean facebook!. i personally would never entrust personal information to that morally bankrupt platform.. and other's of the same ilk. they are little more than data collector's for government's and big business. all i want to do is share image's within a strictly controlled environment and Imgur fit's that bill.. social media user's are becoming more and more aware that their data is being mass collected and used without their knowledge!. it's unfortunate that facebook and the like tapped into the masses because on the whole the majority of people are ' thick '..... they do not understand the concept and consequence's of mass data collection they spew out there inanities ad nuseum never giving a second thought that these outpouring's can and will be used at a future date. potential employers now actively trawl social media websites in order to gather information on future, or present employee's.. nobody's data is safe!. the new data protection act incoming will do nothing to alter the vast majority of people's behaviour who will i'm afraid continue to post without fear of future consequence's. " don't worry they say, we have all your data safely secured in our cloud ". you can only educate people up to the level of their capabilities.. if your thick, then your thick, end of... i'm afraid the vast majority of people are a bit thick, and therefore open to manipulation and exploitation. |

| My point is the technology is available to make posting images very easy and the mass platforms have cottoned onto the fact that an image is worth a thousand words. Forums that do not have that capability suffer accordingly and it will only get worse. No third party host offers free services out of the goodness of its heart - they are in it to make a buck at some point. Mass data collection is also a fact of life, but for most people, including the many thousands on closed facebook groups or Twitter or Instagram, the advantages outweigh the risks. The facebook thing is hysteria. Don't use a mobile phone, don't use GPS, don't use your computer - it's like holding back the tide.
