Better than a corgi I suppose. On a different tack, your earlier response made me think just what an unlucky man the good lord was - imagine being elevated to the aristocracy only to find you've got Chelmsford! Still I suppose it could have been Dagenham.

That’s Southend - not South End.

I was only there the other day for an evening of cultural at the theatre there.

A stroll along the Royal Terrace there revealed an astonishing number of blue plaques. Notable amongst them we discovered Queen Caroline and Edward Whymper...

There is a link to the Rocket Battery as well, Francis Broadfoot Russell had attended courses at Shoeburyness.

The plaques are blue in Sarfend because its so bloody cold! "An evening of cultural" is such an East End way of putting it. Very Happy

I stand or sit corrected.....Southend/Saffend is obviously the place in Essex - probably why Arthur Daley went there....

I had to Google it just to make sure it was still in where I thought it was.......
