I've read Col. Durnford arrived at Isandlwana with 250 Natal Native Horse. If he sent two troops of NNH to the Nqutu Plateau (under Roberts and Raw) how many NNH did he actually have when he went to reinforce Chelmsford (not counting the rocket group)?

Mickager,

There were five troops of Native Horse engaged at iSandlwana. Each troop was comprised of approximately fifty other-ranks.

Hi,

As John Y says there were 5 troops of Natal Native Mounted Contingent (NNMC) - 2 sent up to the plateau (Raw & Roberts), one sent back initially to escort the wagons in to camp (and then on to reinforce the spur area?) under Vause and two which went out with Durnford (Henderson and Davies)

Cheers

Simon
