| I couldn’t find him in the medal roll (I’ve got Dutton’s) in either 1st KDG or any other cavalry regt (in any rank). I also checked Harts army list for 1880 and he’s not listed for 1st KDG there either and is not listed as one of the regts officers that took part in the AZW. Harts gives the current riding master for the regt as Philip Kelly (since 14.6.76) and a previous riding master as Lt Richmond G Nicholas (from 13.4.72 - then Adjt from 14.2.74). Seems a bit of a mystery! Phil

| Andy,
Hart’s Army List for 1879 & 1880 has him with 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers in the former based at Brighton, and in the latter at Woolwich. The date of his appointment as Riding Master is given as 2nd November 1866.
The 1881 edition however has Crowdy as the Riding Master of the 1st (King’s) Dragoon Guards, and Kelly mentioned above by Phil as serving in the 5th Lancers.

| Hi Phil
Many thanks for having a look and for the information.
Hi JY
Many thanks for the information given. The Queen’s Royal Lancers Museum requires a donation of £15.00 per enquiry, so more research required before I spend my £15.00.
Hart’s Army List for 1881 has him with 1st (King's) Dragoon Guards, so the Newspaper could now just add the Zulu War bit in as a connection maybe?

| Andy,
The 1882 edition has his retirement notice with the rank of Honorary Major in the KDG. There are no war services recorded against his name.

| Hi JY
That says it all then. Newspaper listed Zulu War incorrectly.
