Best book on colonial soldiers during zulu war

Can anyone recommend a good book on the colonial soldiers during the zulu war. I've read Blood on the painted mountain. Is there anything more recent?

I've just done a quick search of the suggested book. And it appears to be one of those that is and will remain impossible to find. I had a similar experience with a book about the Bushveldt Carbineers.

Hopefully you're in SA ? , I can tell you postage will be prohibitive.... you'll need to have it sent by Courier if you aren't in SA and it's going international , SA Post is deplorable ( at best ).... still waiting on a book sent surface mail from SA to Australia in Oct last year , I wanted to cancel the sale it was at Auction , but the Seller said I couldn't , I certainly wasn't going to pay something like $ 70 USD to have it sent by Courier , as it was it was still $ 22 USD by Surface mail , and still waiting , I no longer use the Auction site , and certainly will NEVER buy from the sellers bookshop ever again ! .

I have a copy in front of me now. The illustrations are a mixture of contemporary photographs and engravings and modern colour photographs. Is anything you are looking for in particular?

Strangely my name morphs in the text from John to James, most odd.

I was just curious if there were any contemporary photos that were previously unpublished and if there were any specifically from the skirmish before ulundi.
I haven't heard back from Dave at select books as yet.

The only one I can say I had not seen before is of a RQMS from a colonial unit, it is contemporary to the period, but there is no direct evidence to link it to the Frontier Light Horse.

I did supply Cam with a photograph of Captain & Paymaster Howard Hutton, of the Frontier Light Horse, wearing his NZ & South Africa medals, but it didn’t make the publication.

There was a photographer in the field with Wood’s Flying Column, but to my knowledge there were no recorded photographs of colonial units. There was a photograph taken on the Mfolozi River near where the mounted troops crossed on 3rd July 1879, I believe it appears in Michael Barthorp’s Pictorial History.

David Truesdale and I used some uncommon engravings relating to Beresford & O’Toole in Victoria’s Harvest.

There are some notable omissions from the photographs in Cam’s book, but that is just my opinion.

Thanks for that, I’ve got to say of three of us here I am showing the mildest symptoms. My eldest son brought it back with him from a business trip to Washington D.C. We had managed to avoid it for over two years, so I guess it was inevitable.

Absolutely ridiculous it was being sold in the U.K. for £19.50. Personally I blame corruption for causing the ruin of the South African Postal Service.

Now courier services profiteer from the customers of South African booksellers and publishers.

Just my thoughts.

Yes Covid's proving very stubborn here in Australia , it's raging here in Melbourne... as is the flu which has become a real problem , I had the Flu in the first week of May was out of action for a week ! , Sydney isn't much better neither is the rest of Oz to be honest !

Photographically I have nothing else - knowingly - in my collection.

A slight variation of the photograph of Hutton appears in the book Defenders of New Zealand together a short biography of him.

I do have a watercolour of H.C.D D’Arcy V.C., that I commissioned from the late Andy May.
