"The suicide of Mr Scrivener. Calcutta 18th November—Yesterday evening, the body of Mr Scrivener, who committed suicide, was interred in the Circular Road Cemetory. A large number of his old comrades of the Calcutta Naval Volunteers, all the officeers and most of the petty officers turned out, though no burial service was read over his remains. The deceased was a popular member of the corps and was much respected. He was the son of the Director General of English Customs. He accompanied Lord Chelmsford to the Cape in the capacity of Private Secratery. At the conclusion of the Zulu War be obtained a Commission in the Cape Mounted Rifles, and came to Calcutta a short time ago wher he obtained a billet in the Port Office whilst looking about for something permenant.—Madras Mail"

Hi All,
On his burial record is the following Henry G Scrivener died 16 Nov 1890 age 40, Chief Officer Lightship Hesperus, Lower Circular Rd Cemetery Calcutta. Probably born Hemel Hempstead 1850.
