Youngest officer at Isandlwana.

Doe's anyone know the name of the youngest officer to be killed during the Battle of Isandlwana. I would be interested to know the youngest soldier as well, but quite a few gave false names and ages so i guest it would be near impossible to say.

I think they were probably around the same ages give or take a few months. It would be a case of looking at Birth dates. Which would take some time.

Sub Lt Griffith 2nd/ 24th. He was 21 years old.

Sub-Lieutenant Thomas Llewelyn George GRIFFITH - 2/24th (2nd Warwickshire Regt.) Killed Isandlwana, 22nd Jan. 1879. Aged 21. Son of Rev. Thomas Griffith and Mary Whitmore, of North Wales.

Where would he have been during the Battle.

Hi 24th.

Griffith was out with Chelmesford , After Chelmesford ordered Gardner back to the camp to tell Pulleine to pack up the camp
and proceed to Mangeni , Degaucher ordered Griffith to accompany him . In the finish Gardner , Dyer , Griffith , Mcdowell
and Lt Andrews of the pioneers and another officer who isnt named , and last but not least Maj. Stuart Smith was also sent
back by Harness . It seems Griffith on arriving at Isandlwana joined Pope and his company. This from Mike Snook's ' How
Can Men Die Better ' .

Hi all .
Forgot to mention I think it may have been one of the Jackson's that was youngest , I'm sure we have covered this before .
If I'm not mistaken he may have only been 16 or so . They were in the Natal Carbineers .

At that time the only access was via Dundee and Nqutu on dirt roads. It was the most depressing place I have ever visited. The place has a pall of sadness over it. The unerving aspect is that on both my visits the only sound has been the sound of the gentle hush of wind in the grass. There are no birds, no animals and none of the normal sounds of the African veld."

If i remember correctly, Rob also stated that Malcolm-Moodie was killed alongside young Fred Jackson.

the ages range from Major White 49 - Colonel Durnford 48 - Captain Degcher 37 down to 2nd Lt Dyson 20. Though most appear to be in their 30's.
