| Hi 90th You are correct on both counts, on Ebay at the moment as Cetewayo. Hence the reason for my question :lol!: Hopefully one of the members can identify him |

| Graves 1879,
He is Mkhosana kaZanqana, King Cetshwayo's adviser, who shared the King's imprisonment at Cape Castle and accompanied him to the UK. He is also seen in the background of the photograph of King Cetshwayo taken in Cape Town, where the King is standing beisde a cannon.

| Can't think of his name. But I think he was something to do with the Zulu rebellion of 1906, |

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]These two Zulu indunas accompanied Cetshwayo into captivity at Capetown, and are two of the three indunas who went to London with the King in 1882. The London photographer Bassano has mixed up the names of the two indunas. The one on the left is actually Umkosana (Mkhosana-the induna on the left in the famous cannon photo of the king at Cape Castle))and the one on the right is Ngcongewana (Jeff Guy, The Destruction of the Zulu Kingdom, 2nd photo plate after page 152 as Ngcongewana; John Laband, Rope of Sand, photo plate S2 as Ndabankulu). This said: I do not believe the photo on ebay of the induna is Mkhosana. |

| The seller states "Annotation on reverse Huluhulu Umteto"
If we then google "Huluhulu Umteto" we get a link to a Kafir-English dictionary..
http://www.archive.org/stream/kafirenglishdict00kroprich/kafirenglishdict00kroprich_djvu.txt
Anyone care to translate what "Huluhulu Umteto" means?? |

| Hi Chelmsfordthescapegoat £650.00 now suggests that the winning bidder knows something about this photograph that we do not know. They may know who it is? |

| Hi all. I'm with 1879Graves , the buyer spent 650 quid on his own . He wasnt goaded into it , so it cant be construed as outrageous !!. He most likely knows something that others dont . I thought about it but it was a long way out of my price expectation !! . cheers 90th . |

| There's is nothing on the web relating to this man. I have tried every search method I know. Are we sure the name is spelled correctly. As anyone got a list of the names of those Zulu's who were present at the reading. |

| What threw me for a while was that the photo was supposedly taken in the UK. Heres a thought though, maybe the photo was taken in zululand at the 50th anniversary. There were a lot taken then, with a lot of the warriors showing respect and dressing in their finery for the occasion. It was a big deal for them.

| The unidentified Zulu that was on ebay was in cabinet photograph format meaning the photograph was glued onto a standard 4.5" x 6.25" mount. This format was in its most popular heyday from the 1880s-1910. The latest cabinet photograph that I have ever seen dated to 1914 after which this format was replaced by various size studio photographs. So this unidentified Zulu cabinet photograph would not be from the 50th anniversary of the Zulu War in 1929 as cabinet photographs had been obsolete for 15 years or so. old historian2: As you seem to recall having come across this unidentified Zulu relating to the 1906 Natal Rebellion, perhaps you are thinking of Sigananada, a rebel induna, who was very old at the time of the rebellion and in the below photograph had been captured by Natal forces. There seems to be a similarity in visage, but I doubt Sigananada ever made it to Russell & Sons of Baker Street to be photographed. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
