| Hello
Who knows how many there were NCO's (lance corporal, corporal, lance sergeant, sergeant, staff sergeant ,ect...) of buglers and trumpeter at Isandhlwana in the: - British mounted infantry - Natal Mounted Police - Natal Carbineers - Newcastle Mounted Rifles - Buffalo Border Guards - Sikali's Horse, 3 Troops - Horse Edentale - Horse Hlubi Their rank chevrons were the same as in the infantry and color identical? Cheers Pascal

| Hello
Thank you, but what is that thing there? And how to I access it?
It is vital for me to know the number of NCO grade by grade for these small units that I will go up to one to one with figures...
Cheers

| Hi Pascal. I'm sorry to say but the information you want is impossible to find . All the Regimental records were destroyed at Isandlwana by the battle and the Colonial forces didnt have very accurate records in any case . Your only chance is to get a copy of England's Sons by Julian Whybra who is a member on the Forum. Here is a very good priced copy . http://www.rrw.org.uk/shop/shop.php?action=list&author=Julian+Whybra Hope this helps . This book is your best chance . cheers 90th. |

| Hi Pascal
To get a copy of the Zuluy War medal roll (which will cover the whole war, and not just Isandlwana), I would refer you to:
1. Admin's post dated Sunday 28th March 2010 where he refers to the CD version - you might be lucky and get a copy via ebay or amazon.
or
2. Buy a hard copy: "The Zulu & Basuto Wars, including the complete medal roill 1877-8-9" by Roy Dutton (ISBN 0955655447) which retails for about £28
The medal rolls will not only tell you how many NCOs there were in each unit, they will also name them !

| Hi Pascal
Chevrons - the wearing of these varied considerably in non-regular forces. The best advice I can give you is to look at photographs of the period. There are many books available, but initially I would suggest
Osprey Men At Arms Series No 388 "Zulu War: Volunteers, Irregulars & Auxiliaries"
Good luck
