| Thought I would like to have ago at doing a couple of diorama's from scratch myself and must say that I found it to be very therapeutic. The figures are 1/32 scale (a call to arms). One of the base's is a slate tile, one a piece of wood and the other is a thick peace of tile. Covered them with grout and mixed in some mud and colour for the right look. I was lucky in that the day I did the base's, it was very hot, so layed them out in the sun to dry and the grout cracked just like the hot African soil. The boxes were pieces of wood I cut into square's and then painted and the wagon was made from off pieces of balsa wood. Not only cheap to do but very enjoyable. Especially when you have Zulu and Zulu Dawn playing in the background. I'm not a pro at this so hope you like the result's. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| DAVID. For your first attempt you have done a very good job. Therapeutic in-deed but lot patients is required. I had ago many years using those really small Air-fix models. It took me ages to paint them. Its in the loft at the moment, when I get time I will post a few photos. I will call how not to make a diorama.
Hope we see more of your work. Between yourself and Joe we could get quite a collection. |

| Hi DAVID68, Just out of interest how long did it take you to make each of the dioramas? And how did you make the stone wall in the picture below, or was it bought? - DAVID68 wrote:

| Hi Joe, took about a week (time permitting due to work). The wall was brought from a model shop but was unpainted and things like the hole in the wall and a few bullet holes were done by myself. I've just started one with balsa wood and find it to be just as good and better to cut the way you want it. I think I spent more time paining and repainting the figures as its a pain trying to do the straps and accidentally brushing a part of the tunic etc  . Oh well, makes it all the more satisfying when its done. Dave
