fistly, hi everyone this is my first post
just a thought...would anyone like to see a new film about the battle of isandlwana?
thoughts and observations would be good, not that i'm going to make it! :lol:

I would like to see a new film, but with the fiction taken out, and facture put in. Younghusband’s charge down the hill would be a must.

And keep Tom Cruise out!!!!!!!

Firstly , welcome to the forum congrats on your first post . I along with everyone ( I would think everyone ! ) would certainly
wish to see a new film on Isandlwana , as Dave said Facts only , without the Tom Cruise effect !!!! . Dont mind Spielburg / Hanks
taking on the project .

Hi, Welcome to the forum, Personally what I wouldnt want to see is a a remake of Zulu, i think that they would just ruin the legend of Zulu.

i wonder why the makers of Zulu Dawn didn't mention Younghusband's charge in the film. Had they just not heard of it or what?

Unfortunatly if it got into the hands of Hollywood it would end up like a scene from Brave heart, Bare a*****d covered in blue woad and shot in slow motion with every conceivable victorian melodramatic device attached.

I could imagine Colin Firth doing a good job of it though, provided he doesnt have to stutter that is.

Some one a tad more famous than me once said" Ah therin lays the rub". That could apply to this topic so eloquently. Who would be the somebody that knows.

There are so many, even in this age, divergent viewpoints that a movie would satisfy probably no more than 50% of the followers. Think about the potential clashes, an honest appraisal would see the Red Baron in a realy humiliating light, that would make the Chelmsford supporters ( both of them) rather unhappy.
Would we follow the Lock and Quantrill theory, there goes the Snook faction.
Middle of the road? Ian Knight? Greaves?

Really interesting to see who the forum members would have as say technical director/ playwright.

Probably the most knowledable would be a combination of Prof Laband and Ian Knight, but Snooks placing of the troops and the possible lines of retreat would have to be considered, even if his outright bias towards his regiment couldnt be.

A further thought, could the reputations of some key suvivors, Smith Dorean, Gardner, Essex, etc suvive an honest aproach?

More thought that goes in the more the topic gets interesting, nice one bayonet charge.

cheers springbok9, i didn't quite give it as much thought as you are giving me credit for! :lol: but the way that a potential Isandlwana film is written, which characters it follows closely and whose historical records are followed make for an interesting discussion.
